Europe’s wheelchair basketball elite will gather in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, for the 2025 IWBF European Championships Division A, taking place from 9–18 October 2025.
The tournament marks Europe’s qualification event on the road to the 2026 IWBF World Championships in Ottawa, Canada, as the continent’s top men’s and women’s teams compete for both continental titles and coveted places on the world stage.
Europe’s Pathway to the 2026 IWBF World Championships
Organised by IWBF Europe and hosted by the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Division A Championships will feature twelve men’s teams and five women’s teams competing at the Hotel Hills Arena in Sarajevo.
The event will open the European qualification pathway for Ottawa 2026, serving as the first opportunity for teams to earn direct qualification to the World Championships or a place in the Repechage Tournament through their performance on the court.

Men’s Division
- Top five (5) teams qualify directly for Ottawa 2026
- Next two (2) teams advance to the 2026 Repechage Tournament
Women’s Division
- Top two (2) teams qualify directly for Ottawa 2026
- Next two (2) teams advance to the 2026 Repechage Tournament

Europe’s Best Compete for Continental Glory
In the men’s competition, reigning champions Great Britain will look to defend their title against strong challenges from the likes of Spain, Turkey, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.
On the women’s side, the Netherlands -Paralympic and European champions - will aim to continue their dominance, while Germany, Great Britain, Spain, and France will be pushing for the top spots and early qualification for Ottawa.
Every game in Sarajevo will carry major importance, with medals and qualification pathways all on the line.
Schedule
The 2025 IWBF European Championships Division A will tip off on Thursday, 9 October, with an Opening Ceremony followed by hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina taking to the court in the tournament’s first game against Poland.
The competition will feature ten days of world-class wheelchair basketball, with both the men’s and women’s tournaments running concurrently at the Hotel Hills Arena in Sarajevo.

- 15 October: Semi-Finals
- 16 October: Placing Games
- 17 October: Bronze and Gold Medal Games, followed by the Medal Ceremony

Showcasing World-Class Talent
Many of the athletes who starred at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will return to the court in Sarajevo, ensuring a high level of competition from the first tip-off. The Championships will once again highlight the strength, depth, and continued development of wheelchair basketball across Europe.
