The final standings at the Ottawa 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships have set the next stage of women’s qualification for the LA28 Paralympic Games. The United States claimed the world title, with hosts Canada finishing runners-up in a 77–76 final.
Those two finishes earned two zonal qualification places for the Americas. The Netherlands took bronze and Great Britain finished fourth, earning two places for Europe.
The places belong to the zones, rather than qualifying the four teams directly for LA28. The Americas places will be awarded at the 2027 Parapan American Games, while Europe’s places will be contested at the 2027 European Championships in Liverpool.

What the standings mean for LA28
The top four positions determined the distribution of four zonal qualification places: two for the Americas and two for Europe.
Asia Oceania and Africa did not secure a zonal place through the World Championships standings. The champions of their respective zonal championships will instead advance to the Paralympic Qualification Tournament (formerly known as the Repechage), where the final four women’s places at LA28 will be decided.
The Paralympic Qualification Tournament will also include its host and teams qualifying through additional places allocated to the zones based on the Ottawa standings. Finishing positions beyond the top four therefore matter: teams placed fifth to eighth, and potentially ninth, can help their zones earn more places at the qualification tournament. Those places will then be contested at the respective zonal championships.
Ottawa has shaped the qualification pathway, but the teams that will compete at the Paralympic Games have yet to be determined.
