Wheelchair basketball at the LA28 Paralympic Games will take place in the heart of Los Angeles – at the Arena in Downtown LA , the iconic venue which is home to the La Lakers and LA Sparks.

Set against the iconic Los Angeles skyline, this world-renowned arena will serve as the backdrop for one of the Paralympic Games’ most popular and anticipated competitions.

With a legacy of hosting major events including NBA championships, NHL games, and star-studded entertainment shows, the Arena in Downtown LA brings global prestige and is expected to create an electrefying atmosphere to the Paralympic wheelchair basketball tournament. The venue's central location within the Downtown LA Games hub ensures ease of access for athletes, fans, and media – contributing to a vibrant and inclusive Games-time experience.

IWBF Secretary General Gabriel Zangenfeind welcomed the announcement:

“We are excited for this announcement. The LA Downtown Arena sets the perfect stage for a true wheelchair basketball showtime. Playing in the historic basketball venue, which played a key role in elevating global basketball, will not only elevate the player and fan experience but also serve as global window to celebrate our game.”

The LA28 Paralympic Games will take place from 15–27 August 2028 and mark the first time the Paralympics are hosted in Los Angeles. Every competition venue is located within a 35-mile radius, reducing travel time and centralising the athlete and fan experience. Wheelchair basketball joins a group of para sports taking place in Downtown LA, alongside goalball at the Peacock Theater and a multi-sport complex inside the Los Angeles Convention Center.

This announcement also aligns with LA28’s strategic plan to deliver the most athlete- and fan-focused Paralympic Games to date, maximising the use of existing infrastructure and creating a legacy of accessibility and inclusion.
