Day 3 of the IWBF Americas U23 Qualification Tournament opened with Brazil taking on Chile. Brazil’s Francisco de Souza scored 21 points of his final game tally of 44 points in the first quarter to give Brazil a 27 - 8. The second quarter was more even as the teams traded baskets giving Brazil a 19 points lead, 37 – 18, at the half.
In the second half Brazil dominated the game scoring 22 points in both quarters, whilst keeping Chile down to just 8 points for the half, to take the victory 81 -26.
Top scorers for Brazil were Francisco de Souza with 44 points and Joao de Souza with 10 points, whilst Jonathan hit 12 points for Chile.
In Game 2 the USA put on another strong team performance which proved too much for Argentina, outscoring them 32 – 8 in the first half, with USA’s Marshal Lindsay going on an eleven point run. The second half was much of the same with quarter scores of 17 – 2 and 20 – 8 going in favour of the USA. Final score 69 - 18
Top scorers for USA were Kyle Gribble with 24 points and Marshal Lindsay with 11 points. Scoring for Argentina was Bianchi Augusto with 8 points.
At the end of the first round it is USA undefeated with three wins followed by Brazil with two wins and one loss – Argentina with one win and two loss’ and Chile with three loss’.
