The home support rang out around the Rio Olympic Arena as the Brazil Men’s team took to court for the first pool game of the Games against the USA.
It was the USA who held the upper hand in the first quarter, finding the basket to take an early 15-4 lead with 10 minutes played. Brazil hit back in stunning fashion in the second quarter: quadrupling their points tally; nevertheless the USA held on to hold a 39-16 advantage at half time.
The electric atmosphere continued into the second half as the crowd continued to throw their support behind their team; the USA showing real composure under the basket to enter the final quarter ahead by 56-24. It was a close affair in the final quarter, but the USA held on to take the 10 minutes by 19-14 and with it the game by 75-38.
