In the Men’s Pool B in the wheelchair basketball competition at the Rio 2016, the USA put on a stunning performance against Iran at the Carioca Arena 1.

A tough opening quarter saw little separating the two teams in the opening four minutes before the USA pulled ahead to enter the second ahead by 23-16. With the momentum in their favour the USA started strong upon the teams return to court, earning the quarter’s first four points; Iran continued to put up a gritty performance by the USA held firm at both ends of the court to enter half time ahead by 44-22.

The third quarter saw another strong performance by the USA to enter the final quarter with a 71-27 lead. A stunning final quarter by Iran saw the team add another 17 points to their tally, but the USA’s team’s impressive form rolled over into the final 10 minutes as they worked to secure a 93-44 win.

USA’s Matt Scott, 15 points, said, "I thought that game went fantastically: we knew that Iran are a very very powerful, very energetic and very confident team, and we knew that in order to win today we needed to come out and give a good performance and I thought you saw a good performance from us today.”
