The final day of the wheelchair basketball event at the Rio 2016 opened with the men’s 7-8 play off between Germany and the Netherlands.
A tense opening quarter saw the teams trade points with Germany just managing to edge out the upper hand at the end of the first quarter by 15-11.
The second quarter, however, saw the Netherlands settle into the game, quickly closing the gap before moving ahead in a 10 minutes that saw them outshoot their opponents by 21-13 to enter half time with a 32-28 lead against Germany.
The Dutch side continued to push forwards in the third, extending their advantage to 10 points with just 10 minutes left in the game: 49-39.
Once again Germany hustled hard in the final quarter, but the Netherlands held firm to take it by 12-11 – securing a 61-50 victory and, with it, seventh place.
