The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) is reminding eligible athletes that the nomination window for the 2026 IWBF Players’ Commission Elections is currently open, with the deadline approaching on 15 December 2025. The Players’ Commission plays a key role in ensuring athlete perspectives are represented within IWBF’s strategic discussions and decision-making, and athletes across all Zones are encouraged to put themselves forward for consideration.
For the 2026–2030 term, four positions will be available:
- Asia Oceania: 1 female representative (not from Japan, as already represented)
- Europe: 1 male representative (not from the Netherlands, as already represented)
- Americas: 1 female representative (not from the USA, as already represented)
- Africa: 1 male representative (not from South Africa, as already represented)
These representatives will work collectively to support athlete welfare, strengthen communication between players and IWBF leadership, and promote the continued growth of wheelchair basketball across all Zones.
Who Can Stand for Election?
To be eligible to stand, players must:
- Be listed in the IWBF Classification Database
- Be 18 years or older by 8 February 2026
- Have competed in an IWBF-sanctioned competition within the last eight years
- Meet all additional eligibility requirements outlined in the election guidelines
Eligible players who are passionate about representing their Zone and contributing to the future direction of the sport are encouraged to put themselves forward.
How to Be Nominated
Players who are interested in standing should reach out to their National Organisation (NOWB), who will support them through the process and submit the nomination on their behalf.
The nomination process is straightforward. Each National Organisation will:
- Complete the official online nomination form
- Confirm the athlete’s eligibility
- Provide supporting documents, such as a CV or a short motivational statement
