IWBF shares Season’s Greetings with the global wheelchair basketball community as we reflect on the year and look ahead to 2026:
This year has been a deeply emotional and testing time for our wheelchair basketball family, as we have felt profoundly the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Secretary General Norbert Kucera. His contribution to IWBF and to the sport will not be forgotten, and he remains very much in our thoughts.
During this time, we have been truly grateful for the strength and solidarity shown across our members, players, International Technical Officials, partners, and the wider wheelchair basketball community. Your dedication, compassion, and collaboration make our sport unique and continue to carry it forward.
As we look ahead to 2026, we do so with excitement and a shared commitment to the continued growth and development of our sport. The year will be marked by our flagship event, the 2026 IWBF World Championships, set to take place in Ottawa, Canada, next September, and we look forward to welcoming many of you there.
We wish you and your loved ones a peaceful festive season, and a healthy and hopeful start to 2026.
With warm regards,
Ulf Mehrens, President
Gabriel Zangenfeind, Secretary General
