The official schedule for the inaugural IWBF 3x3 Open World Championships has been released. The event will take place from 1–3 August 2025 at the Superbowl Sun Arena in Sun City, South Africa.
This landmark tournament will welcome 22 teams from around the world across the men’s and women’s competitions, showcasing the fast-paced, dynamic format of 3x3 wheelchair basketball on the international stage.
Men’s Tournament – Three Groups
Following the withdrawals of both Libya and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the men’s competition will now feature 14 teams, divided into two groups of five and one group of four. Each team will compete in round-robin group play, with the top teams advancing to the knockout rounds.

Women’s Tournament – Two Groups of Four
The women’s competition will continue with eight teams, following the withdrawal of the Islamic Republic of Iran. To maintain balance, a South Africa B team has been added to take their place in Group B. Both groups will now remain at four teams each.

Action Begins 1 August
Competition tips off on Friday 1 August, with group games continuing throughout the weekend and culminating in the finals on Sunday 3 August. All matches will take place in the iconic Superbowl venue, with free entry for spectators and live streaming available on the IWBF YouTube channel.
