Iran eased their way into the men’s final of the 2022 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships taking place in Phuket, Thailand with a clinical performance over hosts Thailand, 74-46, in the first semi-final.

A slow start from the home side, allowed Iran to open with an 11-0 and build a large early advantage. As Thailand chased the game, they struggled to find their shooting touch (30% field goal) especially their range outside the 3-point arc which had been firing for them earlier on in the competition and with these not dropping the could not find an answer to match up with the Iranian’s firepower.

The second semi-final was a very different affair between Korea and Australia, in a game which could have gone either way and remained tied at the start of the fourth. It was thanks to a huge performance by the experienced Tristan Knowles netting 34 points at 56% guiding the Australian Rollers to victory edging it by just 6 points 61-55.

Tomorrow’s final will be a rematch of the 2018 World Championships Bronze medal game as Australia look to defend their Zone title against Iran. Korea and Thailand face off in the battle for the bronze.

Malaysia and Iraq will playoff for the final spot at the 2022 IWBF World Championships in the 5-6 Place Game following wins over the Philippines and Saudi Arabia, respectively, in the 5-8 crossover games.
