At the age of just 15 years old, Turkey’s Begüm Pusat is one of the youngest athletes competing at the 2019 Women’s U25 World Championship
She will be making her debut for Turkey’s U25 women’s team in Thailand after only playing the sport for just four months.
Commenting on her debut for Turkey, Pusat, who plays for Izmir Buyuksehir Belediyesi Spor Kulubu, said:
“It is a very proud feeling to be able represent my country at the 2019 Women’s U25 World Championship. It is also very important to me to represent my country in the biggest world tournament and to gain this experience.”
This will be the first time a Turkish women's team will have competed at a World Championship at either senior or junior level.
Pusat continued, “We have been training intensively in preparation for the Championship and our aim is to do our best to be successful. Other teams are more experienced than us, but it will be very exciting to participate in a tournament with an atmosphere of friendship and struggle.”
Turkey will face USA in their opening game of the competition on Thursday 23rd May at 6.15pm.
