Wheelchair basketball continues to captivate the II Central American Games, Managua 2018, especially the Nicaraguan men's team, who have managed to win the hearts of fans after remaining undefeated on the second day of the Games.

Led again by their centre Richard Hodgson’s 32 points Nicaragua saw off Guatemala, 78-44 to go 2-0 in the competition. Nicaragua stormed out to an early lead, 24-6 in the first quarter and remained firm in their attack until the end of the match, winning the following quarters 12-15, 17-20 and 9-19. Juan Buch led the scoring for Guatemala with 21 points.

Panama got their first win of the tournament defeating Honduras 52-35. Although the game was fairly close throughout the first two quarters 11 – 9 and 19 -13, Panama outpaced Honduras in the second half to extend their lead and claim the victory. Honduras’s Jorge Rivera was the game’s top-scorer with 12 points closely followed by Panama’s Juan Gonzalez, who hit 11 points.

The other men’s match was a low scoring affair where El Salvador caused an upset seeing off Costa Rica 36-33. El Salvador defended well keeping Costa Rica’s scoring opportunities to a minimum and the game level at halftime 15-15. Costa Rica found themselves in foul trouble early in the second half and El Salvador took advantage to win the third 9-4 and take a five-point lead into the final quarter. Despite all of Costa Rica’s efforts, they could not overturn the advantage and it was El Salvador who finished the game up by three. Jeffrey Guzman top-scored for El Salvador with 10 points but was closely supported by Robert Mena and Henry Ganuza both with 9 points apiece, for Costa Rica Kenneth Gonzalez again led their scoring with 16 points.

The 3x3 competition continued in the women's category. Hosts Nicaragua suffered two losses to El Salvador 8-0 and Guatemala 10-2. The third game on day two saw Guatemala go undefeated as they kept Honduras scoreless winning 14-0.
