Australia’s victory at the Ottawa 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships has secured one men’s zonal qualification place for Asia Oceania on the road to the LA28 Paralympic Games. Italy, Great Britain and Germany filled the next three positions, securing three places for Europe.
The result does not qualify those four national teams directly for LA28. The places belong to their zones and will be awarded through the relevant zonal championships. Asia Oceania’s place will be decided at its 2027 championship, while Europe’s three places will be contested at the 2027 European Championships in Liverpool.

What the standings mean for LA28
The top four positions determined the distribution of four zonal qualification places: one for Asia Oceania and three for Europe.
The Americas and Africa did not secure a zonal place through the World Championships standings. The champions of the 2027 Parapan American Games and the 2027 African Championships will instead advance to the Paralympic Qualification Tournament (formerly known as the Repechage), where the final four men’s places at LA28 will be decided.
The Paralympic Qualification Tournament will also include its host and teams qualifying through additional places allocated to the zones based on the Ottawa World Championships standings. Finishing positions beyond the top four therefore matter: teams placed fifth to eighth, and potentially beyond, can help their zones earn more places at the qualification tournament. Those places will then be contested for at the respective zonal championships.
Ottawa has shaped the qualification pathway, but the teams that will compete at the Paralympic Games have yet to be determined.
