After five disputed days of competition at the Men’s 2018 Central Americas and Caribbean Championships (CentroBasket2018), the position of six teams for the final games on Saturday have been decided.

In the opening game of day five the Dominican Republic almost caused an upset holding Puerto Rico to a five-point game, 51-46, however Puerto Rico did just enough to get the win and secure their place in the final.

The second game of the day was another close affair, this time between Nicaragua and El Salvador, it was all square between the two teams at halftime 22-22, but a strong final quarter from Nicaragua won them the game which finished 54-44.

Mexico dominated against Costa Rica in the final game of the round robin, winning all four quarters comfortably 22-10, 19-3, 20-4, 10-16 to take the victory 77-27 and finish 5-0 in the group stage.

The results mean Mexico and Puerto Rico finished first and second in the table ensuring them places at the Lima 2019 ParaPan Amercian Games next year and will face each other in the final of the CentroBasket 2018.

Nicaragua and El Salvador will meet again in the bronze medal game, in a rematch of what was the final of the Central American Games held in Managua at the beginning of the year.

In the 5th/6th Classification Games, the Dominican Republic will be looking to continue their improved performances against host Costa Rica, to get their first win of the championship.

The final day of games starts at 11am on Saturday (27TH October) wit the game for fifth-sixth place between Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, followed by the bronze medal game at 1pm and the Final will take commence at 3pm.

Mexico and Puerto Rico, now join the United States and Canada along with the host team of Peru confirmed for Lima 2019. The final spots will be confirmed in December in the South American Championships where, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela will be fighting for a place on the road towards the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games
