Event News

Thursday 15th September opened with the battle for 9th place in the men’s event with Japan taking to court against Iran.

There was little to separate the two sides in the opening three minutes of the game, both the play and points going to end to end. Japan then earned a run of seven consecutive points to build the momentum in their favour, closing out the first quarter by 21-14.

The second quarter saw Iran’s gritty performance continue as they hit back: outscoring their opponents by 16-14; nevertheless it was Japan who held a five point lead at half time: 35-30.

Shots refused to fall for both teams in the third; Japan finding a way to take the 10 minutes by 13-8 to enter the final 10 minutes of the game with a 48-38 advantage.

Just three points separated the two sides in a close final quarter, but again it was Japan who edged it (17-14) to secure the win by 65-52 and, with it, 9th place.
