IWBF is incredibly shocked and deeply saddened to learn the news of the passing of FIBA Secretary General, Patrick Baumann, at the age of 51.

Since taking over as FIBA’s Secretary General in 2003, Mr. Baumann has played an integral role in developing the collaborative working between FIBA and IWBF.

His passion for basketball extended to wheelchair basketball, and as an avid promoter for the growth and expansion of the sport, he always encouraged the wider basketball family to embrace it wherever possible.

IWBF President, Ulf Mehrens, said “On behalf of IWBF and the whole wheelchair basketball family, I cannot express our shock and sadness of the passing of FIBA Secretary General, Patrick Baumann.

“Patrick was not only a great supporter of wheelchair basketball but also a true friend. His contribution and advocacy of our sport will never be forgotten. The basketball community and sport has lost a great man and influential leader.

"Our thoughts are with all of his loved ones at this difficult time.”
