IWBF Asia Oceania elected its Executive Council for the 2019-2023 term at their Zone Congress on Thursday 5th December in Pattaya, Thailand.
The congress, which took place during the 2019 Asia Oceania Championships, saw Saad Alazmaa (KUW) re-elected as President for his second term.
His council keeps a consistent core of members with only two changes and one addition. Dr. Lisa Chaffey (AUS) replaces Lorrain Landon (AUS) as the Vice-President of Oceania. Dr. Chaffey is a Paralympic silver medallist who has been involved in the sport of wheelchair basketball since the age of 20 years old, and since retiring from playing she is now an international classifier. The other change is Mohammad Alkhazaleh (JOR) who will replace Anisa Alhooti (OMN) as the Vice-President of West Asia.
The newest position on the board is that of the Vice-President of Central & South Asia. Elected in this role is Hourieh Baradaran (IRI). Mrs Baradaran is the International Affairs Manager for the Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled, and has played an influential role in the success Iran has seen in recent years in the sport of wheelchair basketball.
Ang Kean Koo (MAS) and Osamu Kotaki (JPN) remain in the two other vice-president positions - Vice-President of South East Asia, and Vice-President of East Asia, respectively.
The other re-elected positions were Phatt Krissana (THA) as Treasurer, Matt Wells (AUS) as Technical Officer, and Toufic Allouche (LEB) as Classification Officer.
IWBF Asia Oceania President, Saad Alazmaa, said:
“It has been a pleasure to be President of the IWBF Asia Oceania council for the last four years. We have been through a transitional period but the development of the zone has been incredible. We have seen both great development across all regions, as well as successful performances on a world stage from a number of member nations.
“I would like to thank those who have worked on driving this zone forward and putting it in the better position we are now in. I look forward to working with both the newly elected and those remaining board members to continue this good work and grow our sport across the zone.”
Following the election a short meeting of the Executive Council took place and Don Perriman (AUS) was re-appointed as the Secretary-General of the zone for the next term.
