Hosts Czech Republic opened the European Championships Division C with a bang, defeating Ireland, 90 – 50.

Ireland took an early lead to go 6 – 4 up after two minutes, but a 13 – 0 run over the next seven minutes from the Czech Republic, gave them the advantage going into the second quarter, 17 – 10.

The gap between the teams widened further as the home side dominated the second quarter, 24 – 14, and third quarter, 26 – 9.

A spirited fourth quarter performance from the Irish team showed potential for their upcoming games, but it was not enough to win the quarter, and it was the Czech Republic who added to their lead to gain their first win of the Championships, 90 – 50.

It was an impressive shooting performance from the home side, who scored at 70% from the field, with a huge 51 points coming from Adam Erben, supported by Miroslav Šperk and Tomáš Nevěčný, with 19 points and 12 points, respectively. Michael Cunningham led the scoring for Ireland with 22 points.
