Paralympic Gold medallists, USA men opened day three of the 2018 World Championships against Poland men. USA’s intense defence caused Poland problems, and USA capitalised in the first half scoring 14 points off forced turnovers, allowing the USA to open up a 27-point lead at halftime. The second half was much of the same, with USA’s Head Coach Ron Lykins able to show the depth in his bench, rotating all players and continue to press Poland, to finish 82-51.

USA’s Head Coach, Ron Lykins, said, "We are very pleased with today's result, we were up against a strong opponent. In the first half our defence was very strong, in the second half, it was not as good as it should be. We conceded some points because we made mistakes, but many points also fell because Poland just played well. "


In an excellent team performance, Argentina men bounced back from their defeat yesterday, to subject the Netherlands men to their first loss of the 2018 World Championships, 70-61.

Argentina’s Head Coach, Mauro Varela, said, "Both teams were at the same level today, but the focus on success was because we were so focused on our defence."


The second game on court one saw Brazil men and Italy men both looking to recover from close losses yesterday. Brazil started slowly but worked hard to get back in what was a low scoring game and brought it back to just a one-point game with five minutes remaining, but they could not reverse the score and it was Italy who finished ahead, 57-49.

Germany women delighted a large home crowd to go 3-0, beating France, 58-33. The scoring force of Mareike Miller and Marina Mohnen, who scored 19 points apiece, proved too much for the French to handle.

Germany’s Head Coach, Martin Otto, said, "I think we deserved to win today! We played different line-ups and we were very, very good in defence. All in all, I am very satisfied."


There was disappointment for both the Spanish men’s and women’s teams, as they lost to Australia and Canada, respectively. For the Australian Rollers, they notched up their second win of the championships seeing off Spain, 66-56. Whereas Spain women let a 15-point lead slip, to be defeated by Canada women, 63-34.

China women continued their winning ways with a 80 - 20 victory over Algeria, to go three from three and become joint leaders with Germany in pool B.

In the rearranged game between Brazil women and Great Britain women, Miles Thompson's players the stronger of the two, jumping out to a 12 points lead, but they could not shake off the determined Brazilian team in the first half, keeping the game within 12 at halftime. Great Britain grew in confidence during the second half and started to score at ease, finishing the game, 72-45.

Great Britain's Head Coach, Miles Thompson, said, "For us, this game was about building team spirit and momentum. Our switching game was excellent today. We're in the group of death, so there will be more challenging games. "


Iran men held off a Germany comeback in their first game of the tournament, to take the win over the host team, 67-63. Following Germany’s opening basket, Iran led throughout, with their biggest lead at one time being 14 points but boosted by the home support Germany came back in the final quarter to make it a three-point game, but it was to no avail and Iran took home the win.

Despite a close first half, the Netherlands women outshot the Australian Gliders in the second half to secure a comfortable victory, 65-32, aided by Netherland’s Bo Kramer’s triple-double of 11 points, and 16 rebounds, 13 assists.

Japan men caused the shock upset of the day as they beat European Championships, Turkey, in what might have been the most exciting game of the tournament so far, 67-62. With both teams struggling to get control of the game, two players disqualified for Turkey proved to be the turning point of the game as Japan took advantage of a rattled Turkish team to edge the win.
