Due to unexpected circumstances, the 2019 Asia Oceania Championships will now take place between the 27th November – 8th December 2019.
The 2019 Asia Oceania Championships, which is also the wheelchair basketball zonal qualifying tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, was scheduled to take place at the beginning of November in Pattaya Thailand, but due to government funding requirements, the Championships will be pushed back a couple of weeks to ensure the best possible facilities can be provided.
IWBF Asia Oceania Zone Secretary General, Don Perriman, said"
“We regret having to change the dates for the 2019 Asia Oceania Championships at this late stage, but due to the timing of the Government budget year and the financial requirements that this brings, which we were unaware of when we announced the previous dates, there was no alternative option but to move the tournament to later in November.
“The Governments of Thailand and Pattaya are significantly contributing to the tournament, and when they requested the change of dates the Local Organising Committee in Thailand and the Asia Oceania Zone Executive Committee agreed.
“We recognise that people may have already made plans and we apologise for any inconvenience these changes have caused. However, we are extremely grateful to both governments for their support, as without them there would be no tournament. We continue to look forward to a successful tournament.”
