In just a few days the Centro Basket Costa Rica 2016, which is the Central American and Caribbean Championship taking place in San Jose, Costa Rica, begins.

  • The seven nations that will battle it out are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico.
  • The tournament will run over five days, between 25th October – 30th October.


The teams are playing to be crowned the Central American and Caribbean Champions. At the same time the tournament will act as qualification to the Americas Cup, which is to take place in Colombia next year (2017). The top three ranked countries in the Centro Basket 2016 will qualify for the Americas Cup.

The Americas Cup is also the qualification tournament for the Americas Zone to the 2018 World Championship in Hamburg, Germany. There the Americas zone men’s teams will be fighting it out for the four places available.

The Tournament, endorsed by the IWBF (International Wheelchair Basketball Federatio), is organized by the Paralympic Federation of Costa Rica in alliance with the Costa Rican Basketball Federation (FECOBA).

It will be held in the National Gymnasium and see three games a day played between 3pm - 9pm. Entry is free.
