The world’s leading young women’s wheelchair basketball players will head to São Paulo in 2027, after the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) awarded Brazil the hosting rights for the IWBF Women’s U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship.
The Championship will take place from 11–17 June 2027 at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Center (Centro de Treinamento Paralímpico Brasileiro).
Brazil is a proven host for international wheelchair basketball. Following the successful delivery of the 2025 IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship and the 2022 Americas Cup, the Brazilian Wheelchair Basketball Confederation (CBBC) will once again welcome teams from around the world. Its regular high-level national competitions and the depth of wheelchair basketball across the country provide a strong foundation for the event.
IWBF President Ulf Mehrens said:
“We are delighted to bring the Women’s U25 World Championship to Brazil. CBBC has shown its ability to deliver major international events, and wheelchair basketball has a strong presence across the country. We look forward to building on that experience to give the next generation of women’s players a world stage on which to shine.”
The Championship will bring together emerging talent from across the world and provide an opportunity to build further momentum for women’s wheelchair basketball in Brazil and throughout the Americas.

CBBC President Mario Belo said:
“It is a great honor for Brazil and the CBBC to host the 2027 IWBF Women's U25 World Championship. Hosting a competition of this magnitude represents recognition of the work being done in the country and, at the same time, a significant responsibility. I would like to express our special thanks to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), represented by its president, Mr. José Antonio Freire, for once again opening the doors of its impressive Brazilian Paralympic Training Center to the wheelchair basketball community”.
Further information about qualification and registration arrangements will be announced following consultation with the Zones. The competition dates and schedule will be confirmed once the number of participating teams has been established.
