3x3 wheelchair basketball will feature in the sport programme for the 2026 World Abilitysport Youth Games, taking place in Mersin, Türkiye, from 15–22 June 2026.
Delivered in collaboration with World Abilitysport and the Turkish Basketball Federation, the Games will include an IWBF-endorsed U23 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball competition, providing an international platform for young athletes in the discipline.
The competition will be held at a purpose-built venue overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, forming part of a wider multi-sport event that brings together emerging Para athletes from across the world.
Supporting Youth Development
The inclusion of 3x3 wheelchair basketball reflects the continued development of the format within the sport. The shorter, faster-paced version of the game offers additional opportunities for participation and competition, particularly for younger athletes and developing programmes.
As part of the Youth Games, the U23 competition will give players the chance to gain international experience and compete in a structured environment alongside other Para sports.
Part of a Wider Programme
The 2026 World Abilitysport Youth Games will feature a mix of established and developing sports, including Para athletics, Para swimming, Para fencing, Para dance sport, and adaptive sepak takraw.
Mersin, which hosted the World Abilitysport Beach Games in 2025, will once again welcome athletes from around the world, with competitions taking place across five days.
Event Information
Entries for the Games will open on 2 April and close on 8 May. Further details, including accommodation and logistics, are available through World Abilitysport.
The inclusion of 3x3 wheelchair basketball provides another step in the ongoing development of the discipline and its integration into international competition pathways for younger athletes.
