The road to Aichi–Nagoya 2026 took another major step forward last week in Bangkok, as qualification for the wheelchair basketball competition at the 2026 Asian Para Games was officially confirmed through the IWBF Asia Oceania Championships. This was followed by the Men’s Pool Draw, conducted during the Closing Ceremony.
The 2026 Asian Para Games (18–24 October 2026), the continent’s premier multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities, will bring together Asia’s top wheelchair basketball nations to compete for regional pride.
Women’s Teams Qualified to Aichi–Nagoya 2026
Six nations secured their place in the women’s wheelchair basketball tournament at the Asian Para Games:
- China
- Cambodia
- Iran
- Japan
- Laos
- Thailand
The women’s competition in Bangkok highlighted the growing depth of talent in the region, with China reaffirming their dominance, Japan showcasing consistency, and emerging programmes such as Cambodia and Laos continuing to improve.
Men’s Qualification Concluded in Bangkok
Following nine days of intense competition at the 2025 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships, the men’s national teams that secured qualification to Aichi–Nagoya 2026 were confirmed. During the Closing Ceremony, IWBF Asia Oceania Secretary General Don Perriman took to centre court to officially conduct the draw for the men’s wheelchair basketball event at the 2026 Asian Para Games.

The Asia Oceania Championships once again played a pivotal role in defining the competitive landscape for the Asian Para Games.
