Goyang City, South Korea to host 2014 Men’s Wheelchair Basketball World Championship 

 

Maureen Orchard, President of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation today announced that the Executive Council of IWBF voted to award the 2014 IWBF Men’s World Championship to Korea Wheelchair Basketball Federation. The tournament will be held in Goyang City, South Korea.

 Six officials from KWBF and the City of Goyang traveled to Birmingham, UK to make the final presentation to the Executive Council. Orchard mentioned that the presentation was very impressive. She said that in 2009 IWBF made the decision to hold separate world tournaments for men and women for the first time in 2014 and we are very excited about entrusting our first championship under this new format to KWBF.

The EC saw a presentation on the Aerodome a new state of the art sporting complex that is expected to be completed in 2011 just in time for the IWBF Asia Oceania Qualification Tournament for the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

The Korean delegation were understandable exited and expressed their thanks to the IWBF for the trust they had placed in them.

 

IWBF is in the final stages of negotiation with Wheelchair Basketball Canada to host the 2014 Women’s World Championship.
